The District Magistrate of Patna, Thiyagarajan S M, conducted an on-site inspection along the Ganga riverfront to identify locations for upcoming inland waterways infrastructure projects, including a cruise terminal, community jetty, and a ship repair hub. Officials said the groundwork is part of efforts to enhance Patna’s river-based transport network and tourism potential.
During the inspection, the DM visited Pahalwan Ghat, where about two acres have been earmarked for a world-class cruise terminal. Authorities said the facility will serve as a central hub for river cruises, attracting tourists and supporting economic activity along the river.
At Digha Ghat, a 20 m x 20 m plot was identified for a community jetty that is expected to improve river transport access for passengers along the Ganga. Additionally, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has been allocated five acres in Kurji to establish a ship repair centre, which will enable maintenance and servicing of vessels within Patna. Officials described the cruise terminal project as a significant addition to the city’s infrastructure that will support both tourism and inland water transport. The district administration said it will continue to extend full support to IWAI to expedite development work.
The inspection also highlighted ongoing preparations for launching a Water Metro service later this month, with an initial route planned between Digha and Kangan Ghat, and potential further expansion under consideration.
