Political leader Pappu Yadav today raised serious concerns about safety gaps in girls’ hostels across Patna following the recent suspicious death of a NEET aspirant staying in a hostel. During media interactions, he urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive safety audit of residential facilities where students reside, especially those attending competitive exam coaching and institutions.
Pappu said that the tragic incident has exposed systemic weaknesses in hostel security, including inadequate monitoring, absence of round-the-clock supervision, and limited emergency response mechanisms. He appealed to the district administration and educational institutions to urgently strengthen protocols to ensure that female students are protected from all kinds of risk, whether related to health emergencies, safety lapses, or personal disputes.
In his remarks, he stressed that hostel owners and management committees must be held accountable for compliance with safety standards, including proper lighting, secure entry points, CCTV surveillance, and regular welfare checks. He emphasised that students living away from home need a secure environment to focus on academic goals without fear or anxiety.
Local residents and student groups welcomed the call for enhanced safety measures, saying that many hostels, particularly in densely populated educational sectors, lack robust oversight. They echoed demands for an independent review of all girls’ hostels registered with educational boards and authorities.

Parents of hostel residents also expressed support for heightened safety protocols, indicating that trust in hostel management has been shaken by recent events. Some suggested forming joint safety committees that include parents, educational institutions and local police to ensure regular inspections and rapid response if issues arise.
Pappu Yadav concluded by urging state leaders and administrators to adopt immediate action rather than wait for long bureaucratic reviews, saying that safe educational environments are critical for the future of students and the trust of their families.
