India’s 77th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi witnessed several historic moments and “firsts” as the nation celebrated constitutional values with an impressive mix of military precision and cultural pride. This year’s event was marked not only by traditional fly-pasts and military displays but also by a series of milestones that underscored India’s evolving social and cultural landscape.
A standout moment was the historic role of Assistant Commandant Simran Bala, a 26-year-old officer from Jammu and Kashmir, who became the first woman to lead an all-male contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during the parade, reflecting growing gender inclusivity within India’s security forces. Her contingent of over 140 personnel marched down Kartavya Path to patriotic tunes, drawing applause from the crowd.
In addition to this, the parade featured a cinema-themed tableau that creatively celebrated elements of India’s film heritage and storytelling, bringing cultural narrative into the national spotlight amidst the rows of defence displays.
Other first-of-its-kind highlights included new military equipment formations, thematic tableaux celebrating the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’, and participation by unique cultural and institutional entries that blended India’s rich history with modern achievements.
The presence of foreign dignitaries added to the spectacle. European leaders, as chief guests, were part of a symbolic moment that highlighted India’s global partnerships and diplomatic outreach.
