Patna’s Jayprakash Narayan International Airport today operationalised its third aerobridge, marking a significant upgrade in passenger handling capacity and convenience at one of Bihar’s busiest aviation hubs. The new aerobridge was inaugurated in the presence of airport officials, airline representatives and senior civil aviation personnel, who highlighted its role in improving boarding and disembarking efficiency especially during peak travel hours.
The addition of the third aerobridge is expected to streamline passenger movement for larger aircraft and reduce turnaround times, offering enhanced comfort and accessibility. Airport authorities said the facility will benefit travellers during adverse weather, including the current winter fog and monsoon seasons, by providing a seamless, covered connection between the terminal and aircraft. Passengers with mobility challenges, families with children and elderly travellers are also expected to particularly benefit from the feature.
Airport management noted that the new aerobridge aligns with broader expansion and modernisation plans that include improved terminal infrastructure, passenger amenities, security protocols and digital services. Officials emphasised that such upgrades are designed to meet growing travel demand from Bihar’s expanding business, educational and tourism sectors.
Representatives of major airlines operating from Patna welcomed the operationalisation, saying that enhanced ground infrastructure will help accommodate higher flight frequencies and improve overall service quality. They noted that reduced gate congestion and smoother boarding processes will contribute to better on-time performance for flights in and out of the airport.

Airport officials stated that additional operational elements will continue to be refined in the coming weeks, including staff training, aerobridge coordination and integration with existing flight schedules. The third aerobridge brings the airport’s total equipped boarding bridges to three, allowing more flexible allocation across domestic and future international departures.
The new facility is expected to be fully integrated into daily flight operations by the end of the current week.
