A viral video showing a white tiger in a seemingly weak and lethargic condition at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, commonly known as Patna Zoo, has triggered widespread concern among visitors and animal welfare activists. The footage, shared widely on social media platforms, appears to show the tiger moving slowly and exhibiting signs of apparent distress, prompting questions about its health and care in captivity.
The clip, which quickly gained traction online, has led many viewers to question whether the animal is receiving adequate nutrition, veterinary care and appropriate environmental enrichment within its enclosure. Some social media users described the tiger’s condition as “unhealthy” and “concerning,” leading to calls for greater transparency from zoo authorities regarding the animal’s well-being.
Responding to the online backlash, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA India) issued a public plea urging zoo officials, the Central Zoo Authority and the Bihar government to intervene urgently. The organisation recommended that the white tiger be relocated to a suitable sanctuary where it could potentially recover and receive specialised care, noting that prolonged confinement can lead to stress-related conditions often seen in captive wildlife.
Zoo authorities have stated that the white tiger is under regular veterinary supervision and is being cared for according to established protocols, although detailed health reports have not been made public. Despite this, animal welfare advocates are calling for an independent medical assessment to address lingering doubts and reassure the public about the animal’s health.
