Patna is all set to make a remarkable move with its Pink Bus Service. Under the supervision of Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), Patna is launching its very first affordable, CNG-powered mini pink vehicles which will be seen running on the roads of the town effectively from Mid-May. Starting at Gandhi Maidan, pink buses will enroute to all the major markets, hospitals, schools and colleges of Patna.  The buses are pink in color so that women passengers can  easily identify these special vehicles. A specialized training is being given to females who will be deployed to these buses as conductors, maintenance personnel and female drivers in Patna. 

 

During the state budget 2024-25, Bihar government has announced the rollout of Pink Bus Service in four major cities — Patna, Muzaffarpur, Purnia and Bhagalpur. The transportation minister of Bihar, Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said, “In the first phase, we will ply 20 buses, which will be operated in Patna only. In the second phase, the service will be rolled out in other districts as well.” He further confirmed that the government has invested 5 Crores in this project with each bus costing 23 Lakhs. 

 

The brand new fleet of pink vehicles are going to be operated exclusively by female drivers and conductors from 7AM to 9PM.  This CNG-powered 22 seater pink buses will be distributed equally on five key routes:

  • Gandhi Maidan to Danapur Station via Bailey Road

  • AIIMS-Patna via Patna

  • Patna Saheb to Rajendra Nagar

  • Patna City to Danapur Bus Stand via AN College and Rajapul. 

  • Bypass to Kankarbagh via Rajendranagar to Anisabad

    • A bus will be available every hour on all the above mentioned routes. 

     

    These affordable CNG buses for women in Patna are well-equipped with CCTV cameras, GPS system, fire-extinguisher, first-aid kit, speed governor. They also contain panic buttons under every seat. Women in Patna can check the real-time location of the bus on the Chalo App. This initiative is projected to benefit 2.7 million women of Patna. The bus fare is very affordable, ranging from ₹6 to ₹50. The payment options like daily passes, monthly passes and prepaid cards will be made available to the passengers.
